NTATAISE ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME (NEP)


Duration: 12 months
The Enrichment Programme has been designed to provide a stimulating preschool environment for children with a special focus on developing language and mathematics skills. It is aimed at practitioners who have completed their formal training.
Objectives:
To establish an appropriate and consistent daily routine that provides sufficient time for learning through play activities;
To create a more stimulating learning environment in terms of materials and equipment including educational toys and a greater variety of books and other print materials to stimulate early literacy and numeracy;
To encourage the provision of a wider variety of activities relating to art, make-believe play, block play, educational toys and games, outside play activities and games (including sand and water play);
To demonstrate methods of interacting with children in ways that facilitate learning through appropriate questioning, supporting and extending children’s ideas;
To help practitioners develop a wider repertoire of stories, songs and rhymes;
To help practitioners develop skills in storytelling and reading books and in presentation of music and movement activities

NTATAISE PRE-SCHOOL ORIENTATION PROGRAMME (NPOP)


This programme is offered in two separate categories namely Centre-Based and None-Centre Based programme.
Duration: 12 months
The Ntataise Early Childhood Development Pre-School Orientation (Introductory) Programme is for early childhood development practitioners working with children aged between 3 and 6 years, especially in rural areas. It is, therefore, primarily an in-service training programme.
The programme is designed for practitioners who have little or no experience working in ECD services and an educational level of at least Grade 9 / Std 7 or Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET) Level 4, but no previous training in ECD.

Purpose and Specific Outcomes:
To facilitate the practitioners’ entry into the Ntataise Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC) in ECD at Level 4.
To help practitioners to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes to demonstrate in practice the specific outcomes of the Skills Programme ECD core unit standards at Level 1 & 2 on the NQF:
Care for Babies, Toddlers and Young Children is for practitioners to maintain a safe and caring learning environment that support the healthy development of children in an inclusive way.
Interact with Babies, Toddlers and Young Children and Demonstrate Basic Understanding of Child Development is for practitioners to support children’s learning and development in an integrated way through the provision of a variety of activities that facilitate learning through play.
Maintain Records and Give Reports about Babies, Toddlers and Young Children is for practitioners to maintain and ECD learning program that meets the basic needs of children and their families within the community context in which they live.
Workshops and Visit Programme:
It is the in-service practical training component of the Pre-School Introductory / Orientation Programme. It builds on what participants have learned in the two-week programme. The workshops and visits programme put emphasis on how to put into practice what has been learned in the two-week programme.

NTATAISE BABIES AND TODDLERS PROGRAMME 


Duration: 12 months
The Ntataise ECD Baby and Toddler Programme is an elective unit standard for early childhood development practitioners enrolled in the core unit standards at Level 1. The programme is designed to provide training for ECD practitioners in the care and development of babies and toddlers up to the age of 24 months.
The programme assumes that course participants are working with babies and young children in ECD centres or home-based care. Therefore the training is provided on an in-service basis. For a skills course in caring for babies and toddlers, participants are expected to have some experience in working with babies and toddlers up to 2 years.

FURTHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING CERTIFICATE: ECD LEVEL 4 (ID 58761)


Duration: 18 months
This is an entry level qualification for those who want to enter the field of Education, Training and Development, specifically within the sub-field of Early Childhood Development. This Qualification will provide a means for formal recognition of those who are already practicing in the ECD field, but without qualifications.
Objectives:
To enable ECD practitioners to facilitate the holistic development of young children in a manner that is sensitive to culture and individual needs (including special needs). To enable ECD practitioners to provide quality Early Childhood Development services for children in a variety of contexts, including community based services and ECD centres.
To mentor and provide on-going support to the pre-school practitioners in the implementation of quality ECD programmes.
To improve the quality of the Early Childhood Development and programmes offered to pre-school children and in doing so lay the foundations for life-long learning.

FOOD GARDENS PROGRAMME 


Duration: 12 months
Objectives:
To strengthen the ECD centres’ gardeners’ capabilities of managing well established gardens (those in existence);
To support the establishment of new gardens in other ECD centres;
To provide informal training on the maintenance and management of gardens throughout all seasons;
To support ECD centres with some gardening tools/implements and seeds/plants; and
To provide an awareness of effective gardening project within the ECD learning environment.

FACILITATE CREATIVE ART ACTIVITIES IN ECD PROGRAMMES

Duration: 6 months
This is skill programme which is aimed at extending ECD practioner’s competence in understanding the development of creativity in young children, and their ability to provide wide-ranging and stimulating art activities for young children.
Objectives:
To set up and maintain well-resourced open art area which is accessible to children.
Develop practitioner’s art skills in order to facilitate children’s overall learning and development through art

FACILITATE LEARNING THROUGH STORIES, SONGS AND RHYMES

Duration: 6 months
Course Objectives
The training focuses mainly on using stories, songs and rhymes to stimulate other learning and development in the preschool child. Through the use of these children are encouraged to express dealing with issues and challenges through hearing stories about others who face and overcome similar challenges. Throughout the course the practitioner is encouraged to implement and practice the new ideas and knowledge gained and; observes and records the responses of the children.
